It's Ibiza time as SEAT's new supermini goes on sale in Ireland

Overview

Seat's fifth generation Ibiza hatchback has just gone on sale here - amid a fair bit of razzmatazz, it must be said.

The all-new car is the Volkswagen Group's first model to use the MQB A0 modular platform.

It's hard to believe the first Ibiza was made back in 1984.

The Ibiza is, by some distance, the brand's longest-serving model, with nearly 5.5 million bought globally - more than 30,000 of these in Ireland.

It's a much crisper-looking car now with a lot of cabin room claimed - as well as allowing SEAT to say it has the biggest boot in its class. Engines include the 1-litre MPI, a 1-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI (these petrols span 75hp, 95hp, 115hp to 150hp).

Later on in the year you can expect two versions of the 1.6-litre TDI diesel (80hp and 95hp).

There are four trim levels - S, SE, Xcellence and FR - and ex-works price start-points for each are €14,995, €17,335, €18,745 and €19,465 respectively. The Ibiza's Full Link technology works with three individual systems: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link.

While Front Assist is standard, Adaptive Cruise Control, Wireless Charger and GSM signal amplifier are options.

The car was officially unveiled here last week - plenty of time for the 172-reg period, which is now in full flow.
