Almost 2.5m private cars are on our roads — a new record. An all-time high of 2,486,302 was reached in August 2021.
The figures are published today by cartell.ie and carsireland.ie.
Age levels of vehicles are now at a point last seen in May 2016.
The average age of a private car (native and imported) is now 8.8 years.
An indigenous Irish vehicle’s average age is currently 8.6 years. Imports have also increased significantly from 3,271 days to 3,444 days (+173).
The average age of an import is 9.4 years.
