New CLA sets its sights on A4 and 3-series territory
Overview
Mercedes-Benz continue their strong product offensive this week with the launch of their new CLA. The four-door coupé joins a growing ‘A’ family which now includes a hatchback, saloon and forthcoming Shooting Brake.
The new generation CLA has been given a thorough update with several design cues taken from the larger CLS. The most impressive updates are to be found inside the cabin which now features the slick new MBUX infotainment interface and ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice controlled assistant.
The brand say the new CLS will now compete against entry versions of the Audi A4 and BMW 3-series, with the new A-Class saloon filling the gap at the smaller end of the premium compact market.
The range starts at €34,100 for the entry level 180 petrol and €37,300 for the diesel.
Three trim levels will be offered from launch in the Style, Progressive and AMG line models with generous levels of equipment throughout the range at what the brand are calling a very competitive price point.
The CLA is the latest in a spate of ‘New Generation Compact Cars’ including the rest of the A range, and the newly updated B-Class. The updates in technology and styling are part of a new look and feel for Mercedes which has seen them win over a younger market and greatly increase their number of female customers.
There doesn’t appear to be plans to slow down any time soon as they announced a total of 11 new launches this year alone, including the much-anticipated electric ‘EQ’ range in the Autumn.
The new CLA is in showrooms now. Stay tuned for our full review and test drive coming soon.
