Overview

Kia EV6 New in Ireland

Good news, everyone: the Kia EV6—that rather splendid electric crossover that has been quietly impressing people since 2021—has been given a bit of a spruce-up. And when I say "a bit," I mean quite a lot, actually.

This isn't just a new coat of paint and some different-shaped headlights. No, Kia has gone in with the enthusiasm of a particularly detail-oriented engineer and improved the range, the charging speed, the technology, and even the suspension. All while ensuring it remains one of the most effortlessly futuristic EVs on the market.

Right, What’s New?

For starters, the battery is now an 84kWh fourth-generation unit—which is 8.5% larger than before. That means you can now waft along for up to 582km (WLTP) on a single charge, assuming you drive it like a normal human being and not a power-crazed lunatic.

And if you do find yourself low on juice, fear not. Thanks to 800V ultra-fast charging, you can go from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes. Which, as Kia helpfully points out, is enough time to grab a coffee—or, if you're like me, contemplate the inevitable march of technological progress while staring thoughtfully into the distance.

A Bit More Power, A Lot More Refinement

Peak charging power has increased to 260kW, and Kia has fiddled with the suspension to make it even more comfortable. Frequency selective dampers now ensure that bumps in the road are dealt with in a manner befitting a car of this stature, rather than an old wooden cart.

They've also made it quieter, thanks to improved rear motor insulation. So, should you decide to glide along in peaceful serenity, you can do so without any unwanted humming, buzzing, or muttered expletives from your passengers.

Looks Rather Snazzy, Too

Visually, the new Star Map LED daytime running lights give it a more futuristic face, while the rear light bar has been enhanced to make it look even more purposeful. Oh, and if you're a fan of Wolf Grey metallic paint, congratulations—Kia has added that to the colour palette.

Inside, things remain suitably modern and minimal, with a panoramic curved display, ambient lighting, and a new 15W wireless charging pad that no longer charges your phone at the pace of an asthmatic tortoise. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard, meaning you can enjoy seamless connectivity while marvelling at how spacious and refined everything feels.

The Lineup & Pricing

In Ireland, the EV6 comes in two trims:

  • Earth – The entry model, but hardly basic. Comes with vegan leather seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot collision avoidance, and dual 12.3” infotainment screens. Also features a smart powered tailgate, because bending down is terribly overrated.
  • GT-Line – Adds 20” alloys, intelligent adaptive LED headlights, heated rear seats, and a glass sunroof, for those who enjoy looking at clouds.

Pricing starts at €49,510, while the GT-Line comes in at €54,300. Finance is available from €381 per month with 0% PCP & HP options, which is rather tempting.

Final Thoughts

The Kia EV6 has already won European Car of the Year and Irish Car of the Year, and frankly, it’s not hard to see why. With proper range, sci-fi looks, and a build quality that makes you question everything you thought you knew about Kia, this is an electric car that feels genuinely futuristic.

And now, with more range, faster charging, and even more tech, it's an even stronger contender for anyone looking to take the plunge into the world of EVs.
