The Fiat Tipo is one we’ve been waiting on for quite a while

Overview

The Fiat Tipo is one we’ve been waiting on for quite a while. It first caught our eye at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in the year with what looked like a stylish return to the C segment for Fiat. The other draw being the price that promised to seriously undercut the competition. Well it’s finally here and looks to have delivered on both counts – the entry price of just €17,995 making it one of the best value cars in the segment, and indeed on the market.
We got a chance to have a look around one at the Irish launch last week and this is what will be coming to our showrooms:
Engine line up
There’s a 1.4l petrol available in either 95 or 120hp guise, or an automatic option in the 1.6l E-torQ. The diesel line up consists of a 1.3l multijet II with 95hp, or the larger 1.6l option which is available in both manual and automatic transmission.
Spec

Three trim levels available – Pop, Easy and Lounge. As an entry offer, the first Tipo customers will be allowed upgrade to mid-spec Easy models free of charge. Meaning standard features will include a five inch colour touchscreen, 16 inch alloy wheels, cruise control, parking sensors, and a multi-function leather steering wheel. The €1,250 jump to Lounge will add automatic climate control, SatNav and reversing camera, electric lumbar support, automatic lights and wipers and some more styling upgrades.

Three Body Types
For those after a bit more room, there’s a station wagon starting at €19,245, as well as a saloon model which will join the hatchback in the line-up soon.

Interior dimensions

The Tipo boasts best in class front and rear legroom for the segment, as well as a very generous boot capacity of 440 litres.
We got a quick spin in the 1.6l diesel station wagon and were pleasantly surprised by both the interior quality and the handling. We’ll have a full video review and test drive in the new year but we’re already confident that this is going to be another very popular model in what’s shaping up to be a very exciting 2017.
