6th Irish outlet for the electric car company
Motor Distributors Limited (MDL) has announced the appointment of renowned motor group, Lyons of Limerick as main dealers in the Mid-West for the new BYD range of all-electric passenger cars – first models of which arrived into Ireland less than one year ago.
Expanding the BYD network to six outlets overall – with further appointments yet to follow – the new Lyons of Limerick BYD dealership will market itself as ‘BYD Limerick’ and be within the Lyons motor retailing campus at Ballysimon Road on the eastern approach to Limerick city.
Strategically, extending to six the number of BYD dealers countrywide, the appointment is one that sees Lyons of Limerick become ‘the home of BYD’ in a region where no dealership existed previously – a move that MDL believes ‘will create an even stronger presence for BYD in an area where the three highly-specified and competitively-priced BYD models – ATTO 3, DOLPHIN and SEAL – will have a strong customer appeal’.
Currently three models make up the BYD range to be marketed by Lyons of Limerick: the ATTO 3 SUV which was first to arrive in Ireland less than one year ago. Since then, two additional BYD models have been added: the BYD DOLPHIN compact C-segment hatchback and the BYD SEAL – both of which share BYD’s ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design language. Over time, additional models will be introduced.
Acronym for ‘Build Your Dreams’, BYD has its manufacturing base in China with plans recently announced to construct a European plant in Hungary. Since its arrival, BYD has been warmly welcomed by motor industry commentators and by its growing body of owners, a fact recognised by its success as one of Ireland’s top-selling EV model ranges, and by the achievement of BYD ATTO 3 in winning the 2024 Continental Irish Small Compact SUV Award presented by members of the Motoring Media Association of Ireland.
Hallmarks of the BYD range are its wide range of all-inclusive standard features, its highly competitive price offering, the fact that all components are manufactured by BYD in-house, including its unique cobalt-free Blade Battery and Platform 3 chassis, and the likely appeal the range has for eco-friendly Irish motorists keen to embrace lower-cost, emissions-free, all-electric motoring.
The appointment of Lyons of Limerick to represent BYD is one that recognises the very distinguished position that the Ballysimon Road dealership holds within the motor industry in Ireland, and as a long-standing employer in the Limerick area. Fronted by father-and-son team, Ken and Keith Lyons, and staffed by a team of dedicated and talented professionals, Lyons of Limerick is a well-established family run business established over 40 years ago.
Speaking of their appointment, Ken Lyons said: “we welcome our appointment and the opportunity it brings to offer customers a new and exciting EV offering and the chance to share in the value and enjoyment of EV motoring that BYD has brought to Ireland with their award-winning ATTO 3, their all-new DOLPHIN, and in their stunning new SEAL, tipped by the Irish Times as its top-placed new car arrival for 2024”.
